Himachal Pradesh has made a dramatic leap in educational performance, rising from 21st to 5th position in the National Achievement Survey 2025 (PARAKH). The sharp climb marks a major milestone for the state, reflecting the impact of targeted reforms in the education sector.

The survey, conducted nationwide to assess learning outcomes, placed Himachal among the top five performing states – a significant improvement from its 2021 standing. Officials credit this progress to sustained government efforts over the past three years.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur praised the achievement, attributing the success to the policies implemented under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. “Jumping from 21st to 5th position nationally is not a small feat. It shows that our focus on quality education and infrastructure is delivering results,” he said.

In preparation for the survey, the state government organised three mock tests across schools to help students become familiar with the assessment framework. Thakur described the improved ranking as validation of the administration’s “bold and unprecedented” approach.

The minister also outlined steps taken to strengthen school-level education, including the recruitment of 700 new teachers, around 4,000 batch-wise appointments, and the ongoing hiring of 900 educators under the Samagra Shiksha scheme. In total, nearly 7,000 appointments have been made in the education department.

Thakur said the state remains committed to raising academic standards and ensuring equitable access to quality education across all regions.
