Amid deepening anger over Turkey imports, apple growers from Himachal Pradesh have urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately ban the import of apples from Turkey. A delegation of the Himachal Pradesh United Kisan Manch met the Governor in Shimla on Tuesday and submitted a formal memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister.
“Turkey’s support to Pakistan during a near-war scenario is unacceptable to the people of this country,” said Harish Chauhan, president of the United Kisan Manch. “The central government must act decisively and ban Turkish apple imports to protect national interest and safeguard our growers.”
Apple growers in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir have repeatedly raised concerns over the impact of cheap Turkish apples flooding Indian markets. Chauhan argued that these imports have severely hurt domestic orchardists, who are already grappling with rising input costs and climate-related challenges.
“This is not just an economic issue but one of national dignity,” Chauhan said, asserting that the government must not allow trade with countries that openly side with India’s adversaries.
