Haryana Police have arrested a suspect in the murder case of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase near Rohtak bus stand on Saturday. The 26-year-old Youth Congress member had been missing for three days before the grim discovery. Narwal, a law student at Vaish College in Rohtak, had participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra during its Haryana leg. Her family had reported her missing from their Vijay Nagar home in Rohtak.

Rohtak police said a crime branch team apprehended two men from Delhi on Sunday. After hours of questioning, one suspect was arrested. “We will share more details soon. The accused knew the victim, and we are investigating if others were involved,” a police officer said, the news outlet The Indian Express reported.

Narwal’s brother, Jatin, said the family would not perform her last rites until the culprit was behind bars. “My sister was active in the Congress party for 10 years and close to Bhupendra Singh Hooda. We want justice,” he said. Himani’s mother, Savita, suspects the involvement of someone known to the family, possibly from the party, college, or a relative. “She did not tolerate wrongdoing,” she said.
