The body of a young fashion model, Sheetal, was recovered from a water channel near Khanda village in Haryana’s Sonipat district, police confirmed on Monday. The 26-year-old woman, originally from Khalila Mazra in Panipat, was allegedly murdered before her body was dumped in the canal. She had been living with her sister in Satkartar Colony, Panipat.
Local villagers spotted the body floating in the canal and alerted the police. A team retrieved the remains and launched an investigation. According to the police, Sheetal had suffered multiple injuries. “There are deep wounds on her neck and hand caused by a sharp weapon,” the police further said. “The nature of the wounds suggests she was killed elsewhere and her body later dumped in the canal,” the police official further said.
Sheetal was last seen with a male acquaintance, Sunil, whose car was found abandoned near the same water channel. Her sister, Neha, had filed a missing person report on Sunday after Sheetal failed to return home the previous night. She said Sheetal had video-called her around 11 pm on Saturday, during which she claimed Sunil had assaulted her.
Police have launched a manhunt for Sunil, who is currently missing. The case is being treated as a murder, and forensic teams have been deployed. The police are questioning acquaintances and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby areas to trace Sunil’s movements.
