Chandigarh, April 13
The Haryana State Election Commission on Monday announced that elections for municipal corporations in Panchkula, Ambala and Sonipat, along with other civic bodies and panchayati raj institutions, will be held on May 10, with counting scheduled for May 13, and that the Model Code of Conduct will come into immediate effect in poll-bound areas.
State Election Commissioner Devinder Singh Kalyan said the elections will be conducted for mayors and councillors in the three municipal corporations, and for the president and ward members in the Rewari municipal council, as well as for municipal committees in Sampla, Dharuhera and Uklana.
By-elections will also be held for six vacant ward member seats in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Tarawadi, Kanina and Sadhaura. Under panchayati raj institutions, polling will take place in gram panchayats in Hisar and Kaithal, along with by-elections for 528 vacant posts across the state.
As per the schedule, the nomination process will begin on April 15. Candidates can file nomination papers from April 21 to April 25, while scrutiny will be held on April 27. The last date for withdrawal is April 28. Polling will take place from 8 am to 6 pm on May 10, and counting will begin on May 13.
Officials said electronic voting machines will be used, and adequate security arrangements will be put in place to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of elections. Voters have been urged to participate in large numbers.
The announcement sets the stage for electoral activity across urban and rural bodies in the state, with authorities focusing on ensuring a peaceful and orderly polling process.
