In a crucial move ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the Haryana government has approved a proposal to grant a bonus of Rs 2,000 per acre to farmers for their Kharif crops, citing the reduced rainfall in the state as the reason. This decision, made during a state Cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, is expected to cost the state exchequer Rs 1,300 crore.

Speaking at a press conference following the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the commitment of both the central and state governments to prioritizing farmers’ interests. “This year, only 87 millimeters of rainfall were recorded, which forced farmers to rely more on tube wells and other resources, significantly increasing their production costs. In response, the government has decided to support the farmers with this important measure,” he said.

Chief Minister Saini, who comes from a farming background, expressed his deep understanding of the challenges faced by farmers during the Kharif season. “Our food producers encountered numerous hardships this season. Therefore, the government has decided to provide a one-time bonus of Rs 2,000 per acre for all Kharif crops, including fruits, flowers, and other produce. Even small farmers owning less than one acre of land will receive Rs 2,000 as a bonus,” he added.
