Chandigarh/Sri Anandpur Sahib, November 12
In a landmark initiative blending spirituality, heritage, and civic renewal, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Wednesday launched the ‘White City’ Project in Sri Anandpur Sahib to commemorate the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The project began with an Ardas led by Baba Satnam Singh Ji of Kar Sewa Qila Anandgarh Sahib, followed by Minister Bains symbolically painting the city’s bus stand wall — marking the start of a campaign to coat the entire city in white.
Bains described the initiative as a tribute to the Guru’s enduring message of peace and sacrifice. “We are embarking on a journey to make Sri Anandpur Sahib a beacon of beauty, peace, and devotion. The city’s divine aura is being renewed — every street cleaned, every wall restored, every home touched with white,” he said. The Minister revealed that over 20,000 litres of white paint have been voluntarily donated by community members, calling it a reflection of Punjab’s collective spirit and reverence for the Guru’s legacy.
He urged the youth, panchayats, and volunteers to join the campaign over the next week, ensuring every lane and locality of the city receives a fresh coat of paint. “This is not just beautification — it’s an act of Sewa inspired by the Guru’s teachings,” he added. Bains assured full administrative support from the Rupnagar district authorities, noting that the campaign would continue as a long-term beautification drive ahead of the anniversary events expected to draw millions of pilgrims.
“On this sacred ground, where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji built a spiritual fortress, we begin a humble Sewa to reflect his divine light,” Bains said, invoking the deep spiritual symbolism behind the ‘White City’ transformation.
