Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh on Thursday reviewed the progress of large-scale special repair works being carried out on rural link roads across the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The state government has launched an extensive programme to upgrade and strengthen 10,778 kilometres of link roads in rural areas, covering works scheduled between 2022–23 and 2025–26. The initiative, officials said, aims to improve road connectivity and boost agricultural logistics by linking villages to nearby markets.

During a review meeting, officials informed the Minister that the repair works are being implemented across 81 Market Committees under the Public Works Department. Administrative approvals have been granted by the Punjab Mandi Board, and contracts have been awarded through a transparent tendering process.

He directed officials to expedite the pace of allotments and sought a comprehensive progress report on all ongoing projects. Emphasising the need for transparency and quality assurance, he said strict monitoring must be maintained at every stage of execution.

The Minister commended the departmental Vigilance Committee for its recent inspection of a 2.5-kilometre stretch under the Nabha Market Committee, where minor deficiencies were rectified on the spot. He urged that similar proactive field inspections continue to ensure that no compromise is made on construction standards.

“No lapse in quality will be tolerated,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to durable, high-quality infrastructure in Punjab’s rural regions.

Among those present at the meeting were Principal Secretary PWD Vikas Pratap, Special Secretary Hargunjeet Kaur, Engineer-in-Chief Gagandeep Singh, and Chief Engineers Vijay Chopra, Anil Gupta, Ramtesh Bains, and Arshdeep Singh, along with other senior officers.
