The Punjab Police  have arrested six people in connection with a grenade attack on a police station in Amritsar, in what officials describe as a significant breakthrough in the case. The arrests were made during a joint operation by district police teams from Amritsar Rural and Faridkot. Two pistols were also recovered, according to investigators,  DGP Gaurav Yadav said in his post on X previously known as twitter.

The attack targeted a police station in Bhindi Saida on the night of 29–30 March. Officers say the suspects had allegedly carried out reconnaissance before executing the assault, the DGP further said. Preliminary findings suggest the group may have been guided by handlers based across the border, with investigators pointing to possible links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI.

The police said that the suspects were in contact with an overseas-based coordinator who directed their actions. The accused were radicalised and encouraged to attack police establishments, with promises of financial incentives, the police added.

The police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act.  The Police said that  further investigations are ongoing to trace wider connections and dismantle any remaining network.
