Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Friday called for full integration of industry stakeholders with government platforms to enhance India’s logistics sector. Speaking at the ULIP Logistics Hackathon 2.0 awards ceremony, Goyal stressed adopting sustainable practices and advanced technology to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint.

“We must focus on green solutions like electric mobility, biofuels, and multimodal transport to minimise carbon impact and make sustainability central to our thinking,” he said. Highlighting skill development needs, Goyal urged collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector to build a future-ready logistics workforce. He also emphasized the importance of innovative infrastructure building, faster bidding processes, and leveraging artificial intelligence to prevent time and cost overruns.

Goyal called hackathons a “new governance model” that fosters inclusivity by engaging young minds, startups, and innovators. He said initiatives like these align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sabka Prayas” and focus on achieving ease of living and doing business to boost national competitiveness.

The ULIP Logistics Hackathon 2.0, launched on September 24, received over 4,751 registrations. The event, co-organized with NITI Aayog and Start-up India, showcased solutions to improve operational efficiency, digital transformation, and sustainable logistics.

The hackathon’s finalists presented diverse innovations, including geospatial analytics for road safety, sustainable supply chain solutions, and unified documentation systems. Winners were awarded ₹20 lakh in prizes, with ₹5 lakh for the most innovative solution. The initiative built on the success of Hackathon 1.0 (2022) and aimed to foster collaboration across stakeholders, leveraging ULIP APIs to drive transformation in India’s logistics sector.
