Chandigarh, March 25

The Punjab government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding government bus services across the state, ensuring that women benefit from free travel while other passengers enjoy improved convenience, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said on Tuesday.

Responding to a question from MLA Neena Mittal during the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session, Bhullar said that the government aims to introduce state-run bus services on routes where they are currently unavailable. Additionally, the transport department will consider launching services on specific routes based on public demand, he said. The minister assured that requests for bus services in various villages of the Rajpura constituency would be taken into account. He noted that government buses are already operational on key routes, including Rajpura to Manakpur via Jansuya, Jansui, Mirzapur, and Area Manakpur, as well as Chandigarh to Manakpur via Rajpura, Jansuya, Jansui, Mirzapur, and Abravan.

Bhullar highlighted that Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) currently operates 290 buses of different categories, including ordinary, HVAC, and integral coach services, under the kilometre scheme. To further strengthen public transport, directives have been issued to add new buses to the fleets of Punjab Roadways and PRTC, he added.
