In a major breakthrough, Patiala Police have busted an inter-state illegal arms supply module and arrested four accused. Police recovered 10 sophisticated self-loading weapons from their possession.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Varun Sharma said the arrests were made as part of Punjab Police’s ongoing drive against gangster networks in the state.

He said the four arrested accused are linked to the Goldy gang. Of them, three are residents of Patiala, while one is from Muzaffarnagar in Bihar. The accused from Bihar was allegedly supplying weapons in Patiala.

Sharma said the weapons were likely meant to be used in a major crime, but the police team managed to arrest the accused before they could execute any plan.

The SSP said the accused were in contact with each other through an online app and were operating as part of an organised illegal arms network.

Police said several criminal cases are already registered against the accused, and one of them was currently out on bail in another case.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact purpose of the weapons and whether more people are linked to the module.
