The Himachal Pradesh government has launched an investigation after a 10-year-old girl was seriously injured in a zip line accident in the Nehru Kund area of Kullu district. A video of the incident, which took place on June 8, has gone viral on social media, prompting immediate action from state authorities. Trisha, a tourist from Nagpur in Maharashtra, was midway on the zip line when the rope snapped, causing her to fall nearly 30 feet into a river below. She was initially treated at a hospital in Manali before being referred to Chandigarh. Her family has since taken her back to Nagpur for further treatment.
Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma on Monday declared the zip line operation illegal. “This zip line facility had neither permission from the Department of Tourism nor technical clearance from a recognised mountaineering institute,” he said at a press conference. “No application for approval was even pending.” The Minister confirmed that the adventure setup was unauthorised and instructed officials to take strict action against those responsible. The state has now declared the operation of zip lines without proper licensing and safety approvals to be illegal.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over the regulation and safety standards of adventure tourism activities in the region.
