Renuka Singh Thakur from Himachal Pradesh has become a symbol of pride for India after playing a key role in the nation’s historic triumph at the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final to claim the coveted title.

Batting first, India posted an impressive 298 for seven in 50 overs, before bowling out South Africa for 246. Fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur, who hails from Parsa village in Rohru tehsil of Shimla district, featured in six matches throughout the tournament, taking three wickets and delivering consistent performances with the new ball.

As the final ended, celebrations erupted in her hometown. Villagers gathered at her house to watch the match, cheering every wicket and boundary. Renuka’s mother, Sunita Thakur, expressed her happiness, saying, “My daughter has taken me to heaven. She has made our state and the country proud.”

The family now plans to host a community feast to mark the team’s victory. Renuka’s contribution has made her a local hero, inspiring young girls across Himachal Pradesh to pursue cricket with passion and determination.
