Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday flagged off three ambulances in Sangrur to deliver medical aid to residents of flood-affected areas in the Dirba constituency. The ambulances, staffed with doctors, nurses and pharmacists, will provide free check-ups and medicines for the next 15 days. Patients requiring serious care will be referred to nearby health centres, Cheema said. The minister added that the state government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was committed to providing fair compensation to victims. He said amendments to the Disaster Management Act, the Mining Act and related laws would be tabled in the next legislative session after cabinet approval.
Cheema also highlighted the success of the “Rangla Punjab Chardi Kala Fund” campaign, which has seen strong support from Punjabis abroad. He thanked the diaspora for their contributions, saying the fund would help restore normalcy and lift the morale of families hit by floods. “The government will take every possible step to assist flood-affected families and ensure a stronger, more prosperous Punjab,” the minister said.
