Fencing work on border is in line with agreements: India to Bangladesh envoy

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the Head of Mission at the High Commission of Bangladesh yesterday to affirm that border fencing activities along the India-Bangladesh boundary are be ing conducted in full compliance with established protocols and agreements.

In an official statement MEA said that Bangladesh’s Acting High Commissioner, Md. Nural Islam was summoned to the South Block at 2 p.m. yesterday to discuss border security measures, including barbed wire fencing, border lighting, and technical installations. The MEA emphasized India’s commitment to a crime-free border, addressing smuggling, trafficking, and other cross-border criminal activities.

In its statement, the MEA highlighted India’s expectation of Bangladesh’s cooperation in implementing previous agreements to strengthen border security. The measures, it said, aim to curb illegal activities while maintaining mutual understanding between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

India reiterated the importance of joint efforts to tackle border challenges and urged a collaborative approach for effective outcomes.
