Punjab’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, has directed all civil surgeons to ensure the uninterrupted availability of essential medicines at government health facilities, aiming to improve healthcare access across the state. Speaking at a Conference-cum-Training Workshop for civil surgeons on Monday, Dr. Balbir Singh urged doctors and hospital staff to adopt a patient-centric approach, emphasizing politeness and humility to foster trust in government hospitals.
He highlighted Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s commitment to bolstering healthcare, citing increased funds for upgrading services. Nursing students, he said, would receive training to monitor blood pressure, conduct eye exams, and check hemoglobin levels. Their role will also expand to assisting patients and identifying mosquito larvae to combat dengue. Dr. Balbir Singh announced plans to train school and college students in first aid to respond effectively during emergencies. Commending high-performing districts, he encouraged others to improve healthcare standards. Outstanding staff will be recognized for their dedication.
Punjab Health System Corporation Chairman Raman Bahl stressed the importance of cleanliness in government health institutions, linking it to better patient care. Administrative Secretary Kumar Rahul shared insights from a patient feedback survey, urging civil surgeons to address identified gaps. Punjab Development Commission member Anurag Kundu presented the survey findings, prompting the Health Minister to issue directives for corrective measures. Senior health officials, including Kumar Rahul, Dr. Abhinav Trikha, and Raman Bahl, attended the event.
