Tensions between US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk have taken a dramatic turn after Musk praised Trump’s foreign policy — just hours after being threatened with deportation. In a surprising development, Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that Trump had “resolved several international conflicts,” a statement that followed a very public clash between the two influential figures.

The dispute erupted after Musk criticised Trump’s controversial “Big Beautiful Bill” — legislation that could strip subsidies and federal support from the electric vehicle (EV) sector. Musk warned lawmakers who voted in favour of the bill that they could face electoral consequences.

Trump, reportedly angered by the remarks, lashed out, saying Musk, who was born in South Africa, “could be removed from the country.” He also suggested that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) could be used to take action against the billionaire.

The war of words marks a stark shift in their relationship. Musk had previously supported Trump during election campaign, contributed funds, and even appeared with him in the Oval Office. However, their ties soured after Musk resigned from DOGE and publicly opposed the EV bill.  Musk’s recent praise for Trump has raised eyebrows, with political analysts divided over whether it reflects genuine support or a strategic move to defuse political pressure.

Meanwhile, Musk has hinted at launching a new political outfit called the “America Party,” potentially positioning himself as a disruptor in the evolving landscape of US politics.
