Education Minister Rohit Thakur has publicly backed Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh following his remarks on the role of officers from outside the state serving in the IAS and IPS. Vikramaditya’s comments have sparked sharp political reactions, drawing responses from across the political spectrum and prompting senior leaders within the ruling government to intervene. He described Vikramaditya as a capable and effective minister, saying his views should be understood in the right context.
He said that if Vikramaditya has any doubts or concerns, it is important that these are clarified openly. Thakur urged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to step in personally and spell out the government’s position, arguing that clear communication would help end speculation and confusion.
The Education Minister also emphasised that Himachal Pradesh’s development has benefited from the contributions of both local officers and those from outside the state. However, he added that negative attitudes were not confined to outsiders and could also be found within the state.
