The Election Commission of India (ECI) will host a two-day international conference, “Global Election Year 2024: Reiteration of Democratic Spaces; Takeaway for EMBs,” in New Delhi on January 23-24. Scheduled just before National Voters Day, the conference will reflect on the key areas of contemporary election management, drawing lessons from an exceptionally eventful year in global elections, with over 70 countries holding polls affecting nearly half the world’s population.

The conference will offer a comprehensive overview of India’s Lok Sabha General Election 2024, the largest election worldwide, serving as a key learning experience for election management bodies (EMBs) across the globe. Hosted by the ECI’s International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) and the India Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB), the event will be inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

Representatives from EMBs in 13 countries, including Bhutan, Georgia, Namibia, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Ireland, Mauritius, the Philippines, Russia, Tunisia, and Nepal, will participate. Keynote speeches and discussions will feature election commissioners from these countries and international dignitaries. International organizations like the International IDEA and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) will also contribute to the dialogue.

The sessions will cover various aspects of election management, offering participants valuable insights into the challenges and successes experienced in 2024 elections worldwide. The event is expected to foster collaboration and exchange of best practices among global election bodies.
