Chandigarh, December 14
Ten farmers were injured on Saturday when Haryana Police used water cannons and tear gas shells to disperse a group of protesters at the Shambhu border. The farmers were part of a ‘jatha’ of 101 individuals attempting to march towards Delhi as part of the ongoing ‘Dilli Chalo’ protest. The protesters are urging the Centre to address various demands, including a legal guarantee for the minimum support price of crops. This marks the third attempt by farmers to reach the national capital.
In response to the unrest, the Haryana government has suspended internet services in 12 villages of Ambala district to maintain public order during the protest. The suspension, effective from 6 a.m. on December 14 to 11:59 p.m. on December 17, will affect mobile internet, bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile recharge), and dongle services. Voice calls, however, will remain unaffected in the affected villages, including Dangdehri, Lohgarh, Manakpur, and others.
