Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called for India to embrace design as a key driver of innovation and progress, urging graduates to shape the country’s future. Speaking at the 44th convocation of the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad on Thursday, he said design is not just about aesthetics but a force for national development. Goyal highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Design in India’ initiatives, asserting that the graduating students would help turn these visions into reality. He emphasised that design plays a crucial role across industries, from space exploration to semiconductors, and cited the Chandrayaan mission’s success as an example of India’s design prowess.

“The world is waiting for you. You will be architects of the future,” he told the 430 graduates, encouraging them to innovate, disrupt, and make a global impact. The event was attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada, and members of the NID Governing Council. Goyal underlined the need for large-scale innovation catering to India’s 1.4 billion people, stressing that inclusive growth and creativity would shape the nation’s future.
