The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has intensified its investigation against senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who is under arrest in a case involving disproportionate assets and alleged links to drug trafficking networks. The Vigilance teams brought Majithia to the Mashobra area near Shimla, where they verified suspected properties and gathered additional material evidence. The cross-border operation marks a significant development in the investigation, which now spans multiple states. Besides it, two individuals reportedly close to Majithia – Manjinder Singh ‘Bittu’ Aulakh and Jagjit Singh Chahal – were questioned by Vigilance Bureau officials for over two hours in Chandigarh. Both have previously been linked to Punjab’s narcotics network, and their statements are now being treated as pivotal in the wider probe.
Officials claim that the statements of four key witnesses have yielded “substantial leads” that could further tighten the case against Majithia. Though details remain confidential, investigators said that the testimonies are helping establish links between Majithia’s declared assets, his political influence, and alleged benami holdings.
Majithia will be produced before Mohali court on 2 July. His party, the Shiromani Akali Dal, has accused the Punjab government of political vendetta.
