The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh of failing to deliver on pre-election promises of jobs, saying young people have been “misled and humiliated” over the past three years. Addressing a Yuva Morcha conference in Nahan, BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal said assurances made ahead of the 2022 assembly elections — including one lakh government jobs and five lakh employment opportunities — had not been honoured. He claimed the Congress’s pledge of a “job guarantee” announced for the first cabinet meeting had proved hollow. “Despite three years in office, not a single permanent government job has been provided,” he said, targeting the Indian National Congress government led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and his deputy Mukesh Agnihotri.
Dr Bindal said voters had trusted campaign assurances made by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, but alleged that recruitment bodies were shut, around 150,000 vacant posts scrapped, and about 10,000 people pushed out of jobs. He criticised the introduction of schemes such as “Van Mitra”, “Rogi Mitra” and “Pashu Mitra”, as well as apprenticeship notifications, arguing these had increased insecurity among job-seekers rather than offering stable employment. He also alleged nepotism in government hiring and said private-sector opportunities had dwindled.
According to Dr Bindal, many young people were now struggling to find even low-paid industrial work and had been protesting for years without response from the government. “Students have spent years preparing for exams that are never held,” he said, adding that public anger among the youth was growing.
The BJP leader claimed the discontent would translate into electoral consequences for the Sukhu government. BJP Yuva Morcha state president Dr Sunny Shukla, MP and former state BJP chief Suresh Kashyap, and former minister Sukhram Chaudhary were also present at the event.
