Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said police officers would be held accountable for major crimes in their jurisdictions, as part of his government’s commitment to tackling crime. Addressing senior police officials, Mann emphasized the need for effective policing and intelligence gathering. “Punjab Police is one of the best forces in the country. Officers must uphold its tradition of ensuring peace and security,” he said. Mann vowed to modernize the police force and implement reforms, while warning of a strict crackdown on drug trafficking. “The supply chain of drugs must be severed. Properties of smugglers should be confiscated, and major offenders put behind bars,” he said, adding that he would monitor anti-drug operations daily.
The Chief Minister also called for aggressive action against gangsters, stressing that “no one should be allowed to take the law into their own hands.” He urged officers to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to organized crime and corruption within the police force. Mann asked law enforcement officials to work closely with local communities and conduct surprise inspections to improve efficiency and security. “We must take decisive action to safeguard Punjab’s peace and prosperity,” he said.
