Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has sought the support of the United Kingdom’s legal fraternity to help the state government procure rare video footage of revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. During a meeting with a delegation from the Bar Council of England and Wales, Mann said it is believed that Scotland Yard may hold archival footage of Bhagat Singh from the period of his arrest and trial. No such footage currently exists in India. Mann described the material as “immensely significant” for India and particularly for Punjab, where Bhagat Singh is revered as an icon of the freedom movement.

The Chief Minister said the state is already making efforts to obtain the footage to inspire future generations and urged the Bar Council to support the initiative. “We will leave no stone unturned in pursuing this matter of great national importance,” he said. Mann also sought the Council’s cooperation in encouraging British investments in Punjab, highlighting opportunities in technology, food processing, and automobile manufacturing. He invited UK investors to participate in the upcoming “Invest Punjab Summit” scheduled for March next year.

The Bar Council delegation — led by Chair Barbara Mills KC, Adviser Piran Dhillon-Starkings, Consultant Melisha Charles and Barrister Baljinder Bath — assured full support and lauded the state government’s initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth and welfare.
