Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday criticised revenue officers for striking in support of their “corrupt colleagues,” asserting that his government maintains a strict stance against bribery. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mann announced that to avoid inconvenience to the public, other officials would be assigned the duties of revenue officers to ensure work at tehsils continues without disruption.
“Congratulations to the revenue officers on collective leave… but these people will decide when and where to join after the leave,” Mann wrote. The strike, which began on Monday, saw all revenue officers in Punjab taking mass casual leave in protest against what they described as excessive behaviour by Vigilance teams.
Punjab Revenue Officers Association members yesterday told the media that the strike would continue until Friday. He demanded the reinstatement of suspended tehsildars and warned of an intensified protest if their demands were not met.
The standoff comes amid ongoing vigilance inquiries into alleged corruption within the revenue department, with Mann’s administration showing no signs of backing down.
