Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has condemned the grenade attack on a temple in Amritsar, attributing it to forces seeking to destabilise the state. Speaking on Saturday, Mann vowed that his government would not allow such elements to succeed, pledging to thwart any conspiracies aimed at disrupting peace and progress.
Mann asserted that Punjab’s law and order situation remains stronger than in many other states, crediting the vigilance of the Punjab Police. “Being a border state, Punjab has often faced attempts to disturb its hard-earned peace, but our security forces remain on high alert,” he said. He highlighted advancements in policing, including improvements in investigative techniques and technology, ensuring that threats are neutralised effectively.
The Chief Minister also noted that Punjab has long been a target of cross-border terrorism and remains at the forefront of the fight against drug trafficking. He pointed out the growing use of drones to smuggle narcotics and weapons from across the border but claimed that such activities had significantly declined since the state launched its anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nasheyan Virudh.
In a separate issue, Mann criticised the ongoing delimitation process, accusing the central government of using it as a political tool. He alleged that the methodology employed was undemocratic and designed to weaken opposition parties.
The remarks were made during an event in Chandigarh, where Mann flagged off a group of 72 teachers travelling to Finland for training. Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains was also present at the event.
