Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday directed Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to accelerate the procurement and lifting of paddy through extensive field visits. In a virtual meeting with DCs, Mann noted the increased arrival of paddy in mandis with the start of the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25. He emphasized that farmers must not face any inconvenience in selling their crops, urging DCs to ensure a smooth, hassle-free procurement process.
Mann stated that the state expects to procure 185 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy, with 32 lakh hectares under paddy cultivation. The Reserve Bank of India has already released a Cash Credit Limit (CCL) of INR 41,378 crore for this season.
The Chief Minister warned against any delays in procurement and lifting, highlighting that the timely purchase and removal of produce from mandis is critical to supporting farmers. He instructed DCs to visit 7-8 mandis daily and closely monitor ground operations, submitting daily reports on procurement progress.
Mann also called for regular updates on the arrival, purchase, and payment of paddy to ensure efficient management. The state government, he reiterated, remains committed to ensuring that farmers can sell their produce without any issues.
