The Centre has imposed a Countervailing Duty (CVD) on Welded Stainless Steel Pipes and Tubes from China and Vietnam as part of broader efforts to reduce steel imports and strengthen domestic manufacturing. Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, highlighted policy measures aimed at boosting domestic steel production, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for specialty steel and Quality Control Orders (QCOs) to curb substandard imports.
Additionally, anti-dumping duties remain in place on certain steel products from China, Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. The government has also scrapped Basic Customs Duty (BCD) on Ferro-Nickel and Molybdenum ores to support the domestic industry.
