The Centre government’s push towards clean mobility was highlighted on Tuesday as Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari took a joint ride in a hydrogen-powered vehicle in the national capital. Joshi drove the Toyota Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) from Bharat Mandapam to Gadkari’s residence in New Delhi, underscoring the government’s emphasis on green hydrogen and zero-emission transport.

The Toyota Mirai is a second-generation hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle that generates electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water vapour as a by-product. Officials said the vehicle offers a driving range of about 650 kilometres and can be refuelled in under five minutes, making it one of the most advanced zero-emission mobility solutions currently available. The demonstration comes as India looks to expand the use of green hydrogen in transport as part of its broader clean energy transition.
