The central government has committed Rs 7210 crore to the eCourts Phase III Project, a significant initiative aimed at modernizing the country’s judicial infrastructure. The project focuses on strengthening and expanding the capacity of district and sub-district courts, with several key initiatives already in progress. Among the major components of the project are the establishment of fully functional e-Sewa Kendras in all court complexes, the interlinking of all courts—ranging from High Courts to District and subordinate courts—and the ICT enablement of the judicial system. These steps are designed to make the justice delivery process more accessible, transparent, cost-effective, and accountable. This information was provided by Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

Additional efforts include the creation of paperless courts, expansion of virtual court hearings, live streaming of proceedings, digitization of court records, and the introduction of e-filing systems and video conferencing facilities. To further modernize the system, the project will integrate cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. The government is also working on upgrading ICT infrastructure, installing solar power facilities, and replacing outdated hardware. An ongoing effort is the migration of district court websites to the S3WAAS platform, ensuring better accessibility and cloud storage capabilities across courts.
