The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, on Tuesday approved a series of major policy and infrastructure decisions aimed at boosting urban development, healthcare, and governance in the state. The Cabinet approved the Punjab Unified Building Rules 2025 to streamline construction and urban planning. It also gave the go-ahead for setting up a new sub-tehsil in Ludhiana North and upgrading the Barnala Municipal Council to the status of a Municipal Corporation.
Key legal amendments were cleared, including changes to the Indian Stamp Act, 1899 (Punjab) and Registration Fee Rules to simplify administrative processes. In the healthcare sector, the government approved the construction of a new 100-bed Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospital in Derabassi. The Cabinet also accepted amendments to the Rehabilitation Rules 2025.
Additionally, approval was granted to fill more than 100 vacancies in the state’s sports department to strengthen grassroots sports development. Officials said the decisions are part of the government’s broader push to modernise infrastructure, improve service delivery, and promote public welfare.
