Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has approved amendments to the Punjab Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011, aiming to boost parental participation in government schools. The decision, taken at a Cabinet meeting on Friday, increases the number of School Management Committee members from 12 to 16, with 12 parents and four experts from education, sports, and extracurricular fields.
The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Transfer of Prisoners Act, 1950, allowing under-trial prisoners to be moved between states with mutual consent and court approval. Additionally, new rules were introduced for Group A posts in the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department to improve governance.
Further approvals included terms and conditions for appointments to the Punjab Tirath Yatra Samiti and Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board.
