A 24-year-old pregnant woman was found dead just a day before her wedding in Una district of Himachal Pradesh. The partially burnt body of the woman, identified as Anshika from Bairiyan in Una, was discovered about 500 metres from her home yesterday. The Police said she was around four months pregnant. According to her mother, Anshika had registered a court marriage four months ago with her fiancé, Pravesh Kumar, an army personnel from Bhindla village. The couple had planned a Hindu wedding ceremony on September 24.
Family members alleged that Pravesh’s uncle, Sanjeev Kumar, a retired soldier, had opposed the marriage and often issued death threats to the victim and her family. On September 22 night, Anshika reportedly spoke to Pravesh on the phone, telling him that his uncle had threatened her again. The next morning, she went missing and was later found dead by the roadside. Her mother alleged that both Pravesh and his uncle conspired to slit her throat and later tried to destroy evidence by setting her body on fire. Police have filed a murder case against Pravesh Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar. The uncle has been taken into custody, while search teams have been sent to Jammu to trace Pravesh, who has been missing since the incident. The case has sent shockwaves through the region, with locals demanding strict punishment for the accused.
