A political row has erupted in Himachal Pradesh after Congress Minister Jagat Singh Negi made remarks about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during the ongoing winter session of the state assembly in Dharamshala. The BJP accused the minister of making “baseless and inappropriate” statements and has demanded a public apology. State BJP general secretary Sanjeev Katwal told reporters in Shimla that the comments against dignity expected in the assembly.
Katwal said Negi should apologise to the RSS, which he described as a “nation-serving organisation”, warning that the BJP would launch a major agitation if the minister failed to retract his remarks. He alleged that Negi’s statements were designed to stay in the media rather than address public issues. Katwal also criticised the minister’s visit to disaster-hit areas in Mandi district, claiming that Negi had an FIR filed against affected residents who sought relief — behaviour he said reflected an “anti-people attitude”.
The BJP leader further raised allegations against Negi’s son, Vikram Negi, who is accused of domestic violence, harassment and issuing threats. Katwal alleged that the state government had remained silent on the matter.
The Congress has not yet issued a formal response to the BJP’s demands.
