An IndiGo flight from Surat to Jaipur was delayed for over an hour after a swarm of bees settled on the aircraft’s open luggage door, grounding operations and prompting an unusual intervention by airport fire services. The Airbus A320, scheduled to take off at 4:20 pm, finally departed at 5:26 pm after efforts to remove the bees caused a disruption on the tarmac.
According to airport officials, all passengers had boarded and ground staff were in the process of loading luggage when the swarm appeared, clustering around the cargo hold. Initial attempts to disperse the bees using smoke proved unsuccessful. Fire services were then called in, and a fire engine was deployed on the runway to spray water in the affected area. The bees eventually dispersed, allowing the aircraft to resume its schedule. No injuries were reported, and all passengers reached Jaipur safely. IndiGo has not released a formal statement on the incident.
