Shimla, March 15
A former Congress MLA, Bamber Thakur, was shot and injured at his residence in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. The unidentified attackers opened fire, injuring Thakur and his personal security officer. Thakur was shot in the leg and admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla. His son, Ishan Thakur, claimed his father had previously warned of a conspiracy against him. “He had already told the media about a plot to kill him and even named certain leaders,” Ishan said.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said police had been ordered to investigate thoroughly and arrest those responsible. “I have spoken to Bamber Thakur and urged him to go to AIIMS for treatment, but he chose IGMC Shimla,” Sukhu said.
