After Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, now Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday accused Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa of spreading misinformation by claiming that 50 grenades had entered the state, with 18 allegedly already used. Jakhar described Bajwa’s remarks—made during a televised statement—as “entirely false” and said that even senior Congress figures were aware of their inaccuracy. He criticised the ongoing street protests by Congress workers in Bajwa’s defence, calling them “unfortunate” and “misleading”.
“Punjab is a border state that has contributed immensely to the nation. It does not deserve the atmosphere of fear and mistrust the Congress is trying to create,” Jakhar further said.
He further stated that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is also aware of the inaccuracy of Bajwa’s claim but has remained silent. According to Jakhar, Bajwa is making baseless statements purely for political mileage.
The controversy has led to a show of support for Bajwa from within the Congress ranks. Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, along with several party leaders, held a meeting to back Bajwa.
