The Indian Army and rescue teams are in a determined effort to save eight workers still trapped more than 24 hours after an avalanche struck a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp near Mana village in Uttarakhand’s Badrinath. Officials said 47 workers had been rescued so far. The avalanche, which hit at 7:15 am on Friday, buried 57 workers inside eight containers and a shed.

Rescue efforts are being led by the Army’s Garhwal 9 Brigade and the BRO, with additional support from over 100 personnel of the Ibex Brigade, doctors, ambulances, and specialised equipment. The BRO camp, situated at an altitude of 3,200 metres, was engaged in infrastructure work near Mana, located three kilometres from Badrinath and considered the last village on the India-Tibet border. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed that relief operations were in full swing with assistance from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), BRO, and other agencies. “I pray to Lord Badri Vishal for the safety of all the labour brothers,” he said.
