An explosion on a vacant plot in a residential colony off Majitha Road Bypass in Amritsar claimed the life of a man on Tuesday, in what senior police officials suspect is a terror-linked incident involving an explosive consignment. The deceased had arrived to collect a package from the site — a routine method used in previous blasts, wherein perpetrators place explosives in a hidden spot, photograph the location, and share coordinates with another member of the network for pickup, Amritsar DIG Satinder Singh, told the reporters.
“This particular location had a pillar used as a reference point,” Satinder Singh explained. “He had links with a terrorist organization and had come to retrieve the consignment when the blast occurred.” The man, who was critically injured in the morning, succumbed to his injuries later in the day. His identity and the specific group he was affiliated with are still under investigation. “Forensic teams are at the scene,” Singh said. “We are yet to determine whether the explosive was an IED or a grenade.”
Police officials are now combing through older cases with similar patterns. Initial findings suggest a networked operation using familiar markers for pickups, pointing to a possible systematic strategy for moving explosives. Investigators are also working to determine the intended target or objective of the retrieved material.
