Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday criticised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, alleging misuse of public funds to build a lavish Rs 45 crore residence, dubbed “Sheesh Mahal.” Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Shah questioned Kejriwal’s commitment to simplicity, pointing to the grand palace constructed on 50,000 square yards. “Children told me Kejriwal built a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ for himself. He had pledged not to take government privileges, but this speaks otherwise,” Shah remarked.
He also inaugurated Sushma Bhawan, a new working women’s hostel by the NDMC. Shah was joined by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and MP Bansuri Swaraj. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s urban development initiatives, Shah highlighted achievements such as the Smart Cities Mission, enhanced urban security through advanced CCTV networks, and environmental efforts like the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
He also detailed infrastructure investments in Delhi worth ₹68,000 crore over a decade, covering expressways, railways, and airports. Projects like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and Bharat Mandapam were emphasized as symbols of progress. Shah urged Kejriwal to explain the residence expenditure, contrasting personal luxury with the government’s focus on public infrastructure under Modi’s leadership.
