In a move hailed as a significant political shift, the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement — a group previously affiliated with the separatist Hurriyat Conference — has publicly distanced itself from separatist ideology, pledging full allegiance to the unity of India. The announcement was welcomed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who shared his reaction on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the spirit of unity now prevails across Jammu and Kashmir,” Shah wrote. He described the development as part of a broader trend that reflects growing confidence in India’s constitutional framework.

The Home Minister revealed that the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement is the 12th organisation linked to the Hurriyat to have abandoned its separatist stance. “This is a victory of PM Shri Narendra Modi ji’s vision for Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” Shah declared.

The Hurriyat Conference, long seen as the political face of separatist sentiment in the region, has lost influence in recent years, particularly following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and the central government’s push to reassert control in Jammu and Kashmir.

The shift by the Mass Movement may signal further political recalibration in the Union Territory, where the Modi-led government has prioritized integration, security, and development.
