Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday expressed satisfaction that the agriculture and allied sectors are expected to achieve a growth rate between 3.5% and 4% this year, attributing this progress to the collective efforts of farmers and state ministers. He also emphasized the government’s six-point strategy for enhancing agricultural production, reducing costs, and improving farmers’ incomes through measures like micro-irrigation, mechanization, technological advancements, and ICAR-developed seed varieties.
He held a virtual review meeting today with state and UT agriculture ministers to assess the progress of various ministry schemes. Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi and senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare were also present. Addressing the meeting, Chouhan highlighted the government’s commitment to advancing agricultural development and farmer welfare. He cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to work with “three times the strength” during his third term as an inspiration for all involved in the sector.
The Union Minister lauded the success of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, which has disbursed ₹3.46 lakh crore to over 11 crore farmers in 18 installments. He noted that 25 lakh farmers were added to the scheme within the first 100 days of the government’s third term, increasing beneficiaries of the 18th installment to 9.58 crore.
Chouhan urged states to redouble efforts in implementing government schemes and to collaborate in achieving shared goals for agricultural growth and farmer welfare.
