Over a decade after the release of his controversial yet acclaimed film PK, actor Aamir Khan has finally spoken out on the heated and accusations that surrounded it. Appearing on Aap Ki Adalat, Aamir addressed both the backlash against the film’s religious commentary and the broader allegations that it promoted a so-called “agenda.”
On Religion and Misinterpretation
Speaking candidly, Aamir explained that PK was never meant to target or ridicule any faith. Instead, it aimed to question those who manipulate religious beliefs for personal or financial gain.
“We hold deep respect for all religions and for those who are truly religious,” Aamir said. “But there are people—across all faiths—who exploit religion and mislead others for their own benefit. PK was made to expose that, not to hurt anyone’s sentiments.”
He emphasized that such manipulation is a universal issue, not tied to any one religion, and hoped the film would help viewers stay vigilant against such deception.
On Interfaith Marriages and “Love Jihad”
When asked about the love jihad allegations specifically, Aamir pushed back with a thoughtful perspective. “Whenever two people from different religions fall in love and decide to marry, it’s not always ‘love jihad,’” he stated. “Sometimes, it’s simply about love. That’s humanity—something that transcends religion.”
To drive the point home, Aamir drew from his own family: his sister Nikhat is married to Santosh Hegde; another sister, Farhat, to Rajeev Dutta; and his daughter Ira recently tied the knot with Nupur Shikhare. “These are real, human connections—not political statements,” he said.
What’s Next for Aamir
With the dust around PK long settled, Aamir is now gearing up for his next theatrical release, Sitaare Zameen Par, which hits cinemas on June 20. The film is one of his most anticipated projects in recent years, and fans are eager to see the actor return to the big screen.
