The Punjab Police have busted a major narcotics and arms trafficking network in Amritsar, seizing heroin and weapons allegedly smuggled in from Pakistan using drones on Thursday. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday that six men were arrested in an intelligence-led operation carried out by Amritsar Commissionerate Police. The Police recovered 4.03kg of heroin along with two pistols – a Glock 9mm and a .30 bore weapon. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were in touch with a Pakistan-based handler known as Shah through social media. The consignment of drugs and weapons was allegedly pushed across the border using drones in the Khemkaran and Ferozepur sectors, before being routed to Amritsar.

A case has been registered at Islamabad Gate Police Station in Amritsar. Police say further investigation is under way to identify the wider network, including its financial and logistical links.
