Himachal Pradesh is facing a serious natural disaster, and the Public Works Department (PWD) is fully engaged on the ground to restore vital infrastructure, the state’s Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said on Saturday. Addressing the media in Shimla, he said that the department’s immediate focus is on restoring road connectivity disrupted by landslides and flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains. He added that all types of machinery have been deployed to clear debris and reopen critical routes.
“The department’s first priority is to restore road connectivity. We have mobilised all types of machinery on the ground,” he said. To support relief and restoration work, the state government has allocated ₹50 lakh to each assembly constituency and ₹2 crore for severely affected areas.
“We are committed to ensuring balanced development and that no region is left behind in this time of crisis,” he added.
The minister also said the state government expects support from the Centre and will soon seek additional assistance. “We will soon visit New Delhi to meet Union ministers and request financial and logistical support from the Central government,” he said.
