Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday advised the youth to adopt yoga as a regular practice in their life as it will help them to quit drugs. While talking to reporters on the International Yoga Day celebrations at the Raj Bhavan in Shimla, he said yoga is a powerful means to achieve both physical well-being and mental clarity. “Yoga is a precious gift from India’s sages to the world,” said Governor Shukla. “It was designed not just for physical fitness but also to connect the mind and spirit. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the UN’s recognition of June 21 as International Day of Yoga.

Highlighting yoga’s growing popularity, the Governor said that more and more people are incorporating it into their daily routines to stay fit and balanced. He encouraged citizens—especially youth—to adopt yoga to stay away from substance abuse.

Describing Himachal Pradesh as “Devbhoomi” (land of the gods), Shukla drew a parallel between the state’s spiritual legacy and the power of yogic discipline. “Just as Goddess Parvati attained Lord Shiva through deep yogic meditation, people of Himachal too should embrace yoga as a way of life to combat the menace of drugs,” he said.

He added that the people of Himachal, along with visitors from outside the state, should set an example by promoting wellness and a drug-free lifestyle rooted in the region’s cultural and spiritual traditions.
