Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming India’s education and scientific landscape, emphasizing innovation, research, and practical learning as key elements of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Speaking on National Science Day, Rajnath Singh highlighted India’s historical contributions to science and mathematics while stressing the need for a strong education system to develop future global leaders. He cited Swami Vivekananda’s belief that education should focus on deep thinking rather than rote learning.

Rajnath Singh also underscored the role of scientific progress in national security, economic growth, and technological advancements, particularly in the IT and space sectors. The Defence Minister noted that India’s trajectory from the green revolution to the current technological boom has been shaped by science-driven solutions. He recalled his tenure as Uttar Pradesh’s Education Minister, when he introduced anti-cheating laws to uphold academic integrity. Education, he said, must be rooted in merit and excellence to prepare youth for global competition.

Rajnath Singh warned that modern warfare is increasingly reliant on advanced technology, making scientific research crucial for national defense. He urged young Indians to embrace scientific temper and innovation to position India as a leader in global science and technology. This year’s National Science Day theme, “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat,” aligns with India’s aspirations for progress through knowledge and innovation.
