Three terrorists were shot dead by security forces on Thursday during an encounter in the Tral area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials confirmed. The militants were linked to the Pakistan-backed banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The operation comes just days after three other LeT terrorists were eliminated in Shopian under Operation Keller. Among the deceased were Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi Dar, both locals from Shopian whose homes were demolished following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, Times Of India reported.

According to Hindustan Times, following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Awantipora, South Kashmir, a police official said. “An encounter has started at Nader, Tral area of Awantipora. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Police posted on X.

A search operation in the Nader area of Tral, Awantipora, turned into an encounter after terrorists opened fire on security forces, prompting retaliation, a police official said. Further details are awaited.
